SOP Title: Cleaning of AHU/HVAC Micron Filters
- Objective:
To lay down a procedure for the Cleaning of 5, 10 and 20 Micron filters of AHU/HVAC/FBD.
- Scope:
This procedure is applicable for the Cleaning of 5, 10 and 20 Micron filters of AHU/HVAC/FBD by the Engineering Department.
- Responsibility:
3.1 Engineering Department: To prepare and review the SOP. To follow the procedure laid down for the Cleaning of 5, 10 and 20 Micron filters of AHU/HVAC/FBD as per this SOP.
3.2 Quality Assurance Department: To review and approve the SOP and Annexes. To ensure compliance to the SOP.

5.1.1 Engineering Associate: Executive or Operator of Engineering Department trained to perform duties as per this SOP.
5.2. Operational Procedure:
Safety Precautions/Instructions: | ||
5.2.1 | Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment while cleaning of 5, 10 and 20 Micron filters of AHU/HVAC/FBD. | |
5.2.2 | Ensure all the electrical connections are properly earthed. | |
5.2.3 | Inspect electrical cables and connectors for any sign of damage. | |
5.2.4 | Ensure that the ON/OFF push button is working properly. | |
5.2.5 | Use proper maintenance tools while cleaning the cleaning of 5, 10 and 20 Micron filters of AHU/HVAC/FBD. | |
5.2.6 | Ensure that a trained person is carrying out the cleaning activity. | |
5.2.7 | Inform user department before start of cleaning activity. | |
Operation: | ||
5.2.8 | Cleaning of filters is done in sets. The list of these sets is prepared from the preventive maintenance schedule of the equipment. Daily one set is to be taken for cleaning. | |
5.2.9 | In case of user department’s intimation during batch/product change over or any other evidence, the cleaning of filters is done as and when required basis. | |
5.2.10 | Inform and get the clearance from the respective department where the filter cleaning activity is carried out. | |
5.2.11 | Put “OFF” the power supply through Main Circuit Breaker of the system by pressing the RED push button of the Starter. | |
5.2.12 | Press the Green ON/OFF switch of the De-humidifier in Anti clockwise direction to close it. | |
5.2.13 | Close the chilled water outlet and inlet valves of the cooling coil by rotating knob in clockwise direction. | |
5.2.14 | Open the doors of the AHU/HVAC/FBD filter housing and take out the filter by removing the nut & bolts for cleaning. | |
Place the filters in the polyethylene bag & transfer filters to designated cleaning area. | ||
5.2.15 | Clean the opposite side of filter first. | |
5.2.16 | Initially remove the dust accumulated on the filters by using compressed air from either side. | |
5.2.17 | Wash the filters with potable water for 5 minutes then wet them with 5 % soap solution in potable water from either sides and soak for 15 minutes in the soap solution. | |
5.2.18 | Clean the filter by spraying potable water forcibly from either side till soap bubbles are removed. | |
5.2.19 | Incline the washed filters till the water gets drained through the filter and then dry them by using compressed air. | |
5.2.20 | Inspect the filters visually for any damage and cleanliness. | |
5.2.21 | Pack the cleaned filters in the polythene bags and transfer them to the respective AHU/HVAC/FBD. | |
5.2.22 | Re-fix the filter, check the gasket and tighten all the nut and bolts. | |
5.2.23 | Close the door of filter housing and put ON the power supply by pressing the Green push button of the starter as well as Green ON/OFF switch of the De-humidifier as applicable. | |
5.2.24 | Open the chilled water outlet and inlet valves of cooling coil in Anti clockwise direction. | |
5.2.25 | Start the system and check for leakages if any. | |
5.2.26 | Record all the details in Filter Cleaning Checklist and maintain the Filter Cleaning Log as mentioned in Annexure. | |
5.2.27 | In case of a filter replacement update all the details in “Filter Replacement Record” as per Annexure. | |
5.2.28 | Update the “Filter Cleaning Status” Label as per Annexure to the respective AHU/HVAC/FBD. | |
5.2.29 | In case any filter is found to be damaged then wash the damage filter and dry the same. After drying, separate the metal housing and filter media. Enclose in polyethylene bags separately and dispose of in the designated scrap yard. | |
Cleaning Frequency: | ||
5.2.30 | Cleaning of filters of AHU/HVAC/FBD is carried out fortnightly or during batch/product change over or as and when required. |
