    To lay down the procedure for Operation and Calibration of Vernier Calliper.<\/p>\n

    1. Scope:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      This SOP is applicable for Operation, Cleaning and Calibration of Vernier Calliper located in Quality Control Laboratory.<\/p>\n

        • Quality Control: To prepare and review the SOP. To follow the procedures laid down for Operation and Calibration of Vernier Calliper as per this SOP.<\/li>\n
        • Quality Assurance Department: To review and approve the SOP and Annexures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              \u00a0 5.1<\/strong><\/td>\nSafety Precautions\/Instructions:<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.1.1<\/td>\nWear personal protective equipment\u2019s such as hand gloves during operation of vernier calliper.<\/td>\n\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              \u00a0\u00a0 5.2<\/strong><\/td>\nOperation:<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.1<\/td>\nIntroduction to keys:<\/strong><\/p>\n

              \u201cON\/OFF\u201d (green colour button) \u2192 To ON\/OFF the instrument.<\/p>\n

              \u201cin\/mm\u201d (white colour button) \u2192 display reading will change from millimetre to inch.<\/p>\n

              \u201cZERO\u201d (yellow colour button) \u2192 To reset the instrument to zero reading.<\/p>\n

              \u201cINIT\u201d (Black colour button) \u2192 To initiate instrument at zero level from any reading.<\/td>\n

              5.2.2<\/td>\nMeasuring range of the instrument is from 0 to 150 mm or 0 to 6 inch.<\/p>\n

              Resolution – 0.0005 in.\/0.01 mm.<\/p>\n

              Instrumental error\u00a0 – \u00b10.0015 in.\/\u00b10.03 mm.<\/td>\n

              5.2.3<\/td>\nVernier calliper can be used to take measurement in mm or inch depending upon the requirement.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.4<\/td>\nLoose the top screw slightly so as to down thumb wheel will move smoothly.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.5<\/td>\nBefore putting ON the instrument, ensure that both upper and lower grooves of Vernier calliper should touch each other.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.6<\/td>\nFirst press the ON\/OFF button to ON the instrument, display will show \u201c0.0000 in<\/sup>\u201d if the instrument is set for inch OR display will show \u201d0.00mm<\/sub>\u201d if the instrument is set for mm.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.7<\/td>\nAfter putting ON instrument, if display is not showing zero reading, then press the \u201cZERO\u201d button to set zero reading.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.8<\/td>\nFor external measurement such as samples, use the lower side grooves of the instrument.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.9<\/td>\nCarefully insert\u00a0 the\u00a0 sample\u00a0 between lower side of two grooves of\u00a0 vernier\u00a0 calliper\u00a0 and\u00a0 hold\u00a0 firmly\u00a0 such\u00a0 that\u00a0 sample\u00a0 should\u00a0 not\u00a0 fall\u00a0 down.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.10<\/td>\nThen note down the display reading.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.11<\/td>\nFor internal measurement use the top grooves of the instrument.<\/td>\n\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.12<\/td>\nCarefully insert the sample into the top grooves of vernier calliper and hold firmly such that sample should not fall down.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.13<\/td>\nThen note down the display reading.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.14<\/td>\nAfter testing is completed, remove the sample from instrument; bring the grooves to initial position by moving the thumb wheel and press the \u201cZERO\u201d button to set zero reading.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.2.15<\/td>\nPress the ON\/OFF button to OFF the instrument.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.3<\/strong><\/td>\nCalibration Procedure:<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              <\/td>\nFrequency: <\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Once in a year by external agency<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.3.1<\/td>\nCalibration is carried out by external agency as per SOP \u201cCalibration of Instruments and Equipments\u201d.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.3.2<\/td>\nRefer Annexure for calibration test to be performed and acceptance criteria.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.3.3<\/td>\nGenerate the A. R. No. on the \u201cInstrument\/Equipment Calibration Register\u201d as per SOP and give requisition to QA department for calibration formats of instruments\/equipments on the due date of calibration.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.3.4<\/td>\nFor issuance of calibration report refer SOP \u201cControl of documents, Preparation, Approval, Issuance and Maintenance.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.3.5<\/td>\nUpdate \u201cAnnual Calibration Schedule\u201d and \u201cMonthly Calibration Schedule\u201d as per SOP \u201cCalibration of Instruments and Equipments\u201d.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
              5.3.6<\/td>\nIf any breakdown occurs, follow procedure as per SOP \u201cCalibration of Instruments and Equipments\u201d.<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
